DETAILS (Please Note this event is being updated as we bring in more teachers and add the pricing. Keep an eye on our Facebook event for up to date details):
It’s time to embrace your inner music nerd! Join us for a discussion about what makes jazz music great, the importance of jazz music history, and how to respect and love the bands and DJs you hear every month. Whether you are a new dancer or a seasoned DJ, our goal is to have you leave with a new appreciation for the music you hear on the dance floor.
Panelists are Caitlin Wellman, James Everett, Brooke Filsinger, and Martin Loomer, with moderator Jessica David.
11:40am-1:00pm: Mess O ‘Jazz
Everyone’s all-in for this jazz class taught by local instructors. It’s going to be crazy! It’s going to be fun! It’s going to be challenging! It’s going to be a great class!
Basic knowledge of solo jazz moves (e.g. fall off the log, suzy qs, moves in the Shim Sham etc.) will be assumed.
Teachers: Caitlin Wellman, Rizwan Dar, Shannon Refvik
2:00-3:30pm: Our Favourite Jams
Local instructors from different groups across our scene will teach their favourite phrases of Lindy Hop goodness! Get ready to learn some cool moves and expand your repertoire.
Dancers in this class should be familiar with basic Lindy Hop moves such as the swing out, inside turn, tuck turn, pass by, side by side charleston etc.
Teachers: Shannon Refvik & Partner, Riz & Partner, Valerie Kitchell & Jules Hamfats Nerestant
3:40-4:30pm: Practice Practicing
We all know the best way to become a better dancer is to practice, but exactly what does that mean? We’ll talk about setting goals, learn some exercises you can do with a partner, some you can do by yourself, and consider different ways to explore jazz dancing outside of the social dance floor.
Discussion Leader: Stephanie Taylor

ABOUT EVENT/TLH and CABARET:
Homegrown goes hand in hand with TLH’s Cabaret. On Friday November 25th. We know Toronto dancers are a talented bunch. We’ve seen you shake a tail feather and strut your stuff on dance floors throughout the city and beyond all year long. We also know there’s more to this amazing community than just Blues and Lindy Hop, so let’s prove it with our best Cabaret ever! Every November (for over 10+ years**), TLH has been proud to invite all members of the dance community & beyond to join us for an evening of song, dance, skits, jokes, plate spinning, dog whispering, dramatic stares… and whatever else you can think of!
THEN stay after the Cabaret for an epic Blues Party run by Toronto Blues Dances. This year it’s a DJ BATTLE!! (Blues & Swing Tunes)
Homegrown & Cabaret are fundraisers for Toronto Lindy Hop.
