Scherzo School

Scherzo is dedicated to promoting a love of music and movement in Toronto.  We offer a wide range of classes to help anyone – yes, you with the two left feet – start dancing!  We believe that by creating a higher level of body awareness and movement physics, being more in tune with the music, and letting loose, everyone can enjoy a night out on the dance floor.

Creative Director, Alcina Chiu, has an extensive background in music and dance.  Though she’s only been seriously doing swing since the end of 2006, she has placed and been a finalist in various competitions in Canada and the United States.  She has taught private lessons, group classes, and done workshops and performances all across Ontario.

Classes

Scherzo is currently affiliated with Hogtown Swing.  For beginner lessons that really teach the intricacies of partner dancing, check out the progressive lesson series on Mondays and Thursdays.

Practice Group & Dance Fitness

Gangbusters is Scherzo’s response to the growing number of Intermediate and Advanced dancers springing up in the Toronto scene.  This practice group meets weekly to really break things down and improve our technique and dancing skills.  We have a monthly theme to focus our attention.  Auditions for the 2011-2012 year will be held in August.  Stay tuned on Facebook to join our committed group of dancers!

And for the most hardcore, Scherzo also offers Nia Dance Fitness classes.  These classes help you learn musicality, have a better understanding and appreciation for the way your body moves, build endurance and prevent injury, and find the joy of movement.  A highly recommended class for anyone who wants to reach the highest level of dancing.

Social Dance

Scherzo is also excited to bring you Jump Session, a high-energy dance with awesome DJ’d music.  Hear authentic songs from the swing era and feel your toes start tappin’!  At the present moment, we are in summer mode with monthly dances – follow us on Facebook to keep updated!
